Walmart's Plan

The City of Charleston announced this week that Wal-Mart has gone back to the drawing board regarding their expansion plans for a James Island supercenter. Based on public outcry, the City has asked Wal-Mart not to pursue the purchase of mitigated wetlands.

While this is very good news, we still need to let the City and Wal-Mart know that ANY expansion is bad for James Island! Our roads can't handle the additional traffic a supercenter would bring – including the daily burden of a steady flow of eighteen-wheelers. 24-hour parking lot lights and increased pollution would also have detrimental effects on our wildlife. Other grocery stores are likely to go under, bringing a loss of jobs and more vacant strip malls. We must continue to say NO to a 24-HOUR SUPERCENTER!

Please continue to make your voice heard – let all of our elected officials know how much the citizens of James Island want to preserve the natural beauty of this island!
